Music Video From Pakistan: “That is Not Us”

You may not have seen it, but its out there. Just in case you wanted to check. To confirm your suspicions that not all Pakistanis are terrorists.
After the jump is a music video that came from the collaboration of 8 pop singers in Pakistan who want to clarify? what our Western eyes might be seeing, what we are being shown, ?That is Not Us.? It has subtitles, which are not great, but better than nothing.
It?s Pakistan?s equivalent of ?We are the World??the lesson they took from the power of putting Michael Jackson, Harry Belafonte, The Jackson 5, Billy Joel, Huey Lewis, Ray Charles, Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, Bruce Springsteen, Diana Ross, Tina Turner and Stevie Wonder onto the same recording. But, if this says anything about the world?s pecking order, ?Ye Hum Naheen? is not a call to action, another celebrity attempt to better the world?it?s a simple defense. A plea to counter the obviously more powerful message of typecasting.
To me, their desperation, the inevitablitiy of their feelings, the shameful situation we find ourselves in couldn?t have found better words than these:
?We are scared of the dark. So much so that we sit in burning homes.?
